I really wish people would read and re-read before they publish something like this!

Advertising at its Best-- well that's my opinion

During my vacation this weekend in Palm Springs, I was catching up on my week’s worth of awful television shows and I came across this commercial from Monster.com that I think is brilliant, but other members of youtube.com don’t seem to agree with me.
This commercial shows a neighborhood fast asleep and house by house one woman begins to run by and everyone jumps out of bed as though the entire neighborhood is being attacked. Ever person grabs random items from their home and they run up a hill. I believe this is advertising at its best. This was engaging because it kept me wondering what was coming next. Why these people were grabbing random items like satellite dishes, garbage can lids, mattresses, and other house hold items and running. They run up a hill and you see the sun begin to rise, and these neighbors in unison are attempting to fight the light, and once it comes over the hill they give up. The last line reads “Don’t fight Monday”. I believe this is brilliant. So many people don’t want to wake up on Monday morning, weather its to go to their awful job, or to go out and find one… but Monster.com can help! Watch it you’ll see!

The Song that will get me through "real Life"

Recently I started listening to Mat Kearney. A Eugene Native, I've found this song to get me through a lot of thoughts I've been having about the future. In the Chorus the lyrics are,"No parachutes, or safety nets here. One foot in the water to face these fears. I'm coming out strong like I can't be wrong."
I feel like this song says what every college grad needs to hear, that you're going to go after your dreams headstrong and not let anything hold you back...

Made to Stick

Today I received a course book for my advanced Public Relations writing class. The book is "Made to Stick: Why some Ideas survive and others Die" by Chip and Dan Heath. This is the first course book I picked up and skimmed the first chapter and found myself actually reading and enjoying the message it was sending. I think that's when you know you're in the correct major.

This book starts out telling you about the authors friend of a friend, this man named Dan who was on a business trip in Atlantic City. Dan was waiting for his flight home, and he grabbed a drink at a local bar. Before he was about to leave a beautiful woman came up and offered to buy him a drink. That was the last part of his night he remembers. He woke up the next morning in a hotel room in the bathtub lying in a tub of ice. Next to him on a table is a note and a cell phone that says "don't move CALL 9-1-1" his kidney had been stolen. Typical Urban legend, Nip/Tuck did it last season.
anyway this message sticks. Its something you can remember and tell it almost verbatim because its interesting to you.
The book goes on to compare it to a financial strategy of a non-profit organization. How is someone supposed to remember some mummble jummble of a financial statement and make that stick in your mind and even slightly repeat it. I just read it and have no idea what it said.

The Heath brothers do an extraordinary job of hooking the reader in this New York Times Bestseller. Pick it up. Buy it. It will Stick with you.

Change the world with a click of your mouse

I was recently surfing the web and found a site called thehungersite.com its a pretty interesting concept about where you simply click a button and you give 1.1 cups of food to someone who is hungry. Attached to this site are ways to give to breast cancer and by clicking you give a woman a free mammogram, Child health care, animal rescue where you give 6 bowls of food to rescued animals, the Rain forest you save 11.4 square feet of the rain forest, and literacy where you can give free books to children in need.
I find this site has such a great way to help out other each day just by simply clicking your mouse. I have saved this site on my favorites and have gone there daily for a month. Granted sitting at home and clicking a button isn't as helpful as really getting my hands dirty and helping fight these causes, but I guess it's better than nothing!

The next best thing...

I'm always looking out for the "next best thing" whether it be restaurants, movies, friends (jk), jewelry, clothes, but most of all music.
Music is a passion of mine, though I cannot play, nor sing very nicely but I love it. This Girl Marie Digby is simply amazing. She covers a lot of songs, and write some herself but her voice is just so serene and comforting I can't help but listen to her.Supposedly Justin Timberlake saw her cover video of Rhianna's Umbrella and signed her! Enjoy The next best thing

Achmed the Dead Terrorist

Who would have thought a puppet would make you laugh so hard, especially one about a dead terrorist. My dad passed this along and I couldn't stop laughing.
